Woody Point
Approximately 30 minutes from Wiltondale is the community
of Woody Point. On the drive to Woody Point, you will have
a very scenic view of Bonne Bay. Woody Point has a very
deep water port, which made it a very important shipping
port in the early history of Newfoundland. The town is
going through a restoration phase of the older properties.
This makes the town a must a visit while in Gros Morne
National Park. You can find out more about the history of
the area by visiting the
Heritage Theatre website.
Woody Point is situated such that from the town, you can
see the clear waters of Bonne Bay as well as Gros Morne
Mountain and the Tablelands Mountain. This combined with a
natural beauty makes the town an historic place to visit
in Newfoundland. It has aided in the designation of Gros
Morne a World Historic site. Enjoy yourself as you walk
around town.
While in Woody Point visit the Discovery Centre, which has
become an integral part of Gros Morne National Park.
Also make sure you visit
The Heritage Theatre to get a
taste of Newfoundland Culture in music and song. Visit
the
Hunky Dory Folk Arts Shop to get a see some of
Newfoundland's finest in Folk Art Collections
Although a very scenic place to visit in the summer time, like other
places in the park, Woody Point has much to offer visitors in the winter
time. Enjoy ice skating, snowshoeing, skiing or snowmobiling
during the winter months, along with the hiking, whale watching,
cultural events and boating during the summer time.
