This past summer my son Matthew and 4 of his friends decided they were going to hike Gros Morne.  There were five of them.  Three strapping young guys, (Matthew Ingram, Chris Farrell and Brandon Boyd), and two great young ladies (Jillian Jenkins and Janice Normore).  It was a dream for the three boys who have hiked all over our beautiful south west coast.  They had  the trip of a lifetime and they were on top of the world as the saying goes.  Little did they know it would be their last hike together.  If you have not already recognized one of the names, I would like to point out to you CHRIS FARRELL.  He is my nephew and he was tragically killed  on January 5, 2011 (three weeks ago) here in Port aux Basques.  He was a great young man who enjoyed life to the fullest and Gros Morne was one of his greatest accomplishments that he was so proud of.  Matthew, my son, placed their map to the mountain with Chris to keep forever.  The two boys Matthew and Branden are hoping to repeat this trip in memory of Chris.  I have enclosed a few pictures of their trip: one of Chris alone and one of the group.  Please share this special story with others who will be making or have made this trip.  It will always hold a special  place in our hearts.

Thank you.
